PTO Updates:
The Boston Museum of Science came to the 6th graders at JFK December 1 for the Heat and Light program. Some student comments:
I really liked it when she melted the penny.
I learned that you can stick you hand in liquid nitrogen, but if it's longer than 1.5 sec your cells will blow up.
I learned that you can burn black paper with just light. And
Are we going to see it in 7th grade?
This event was supported with PTO grants and a grant written by the PTO from the BOS MOS. PTO grants are funded through parent donations.
The Directories are being mailed this week. Thank you to the Northampton Prevention Coalition for partial support of printing costs, and to Sharon Kubin for compiling and formatting. Thanks also to the volunteers who helped get it mailed out; Libby Arny, Paula Baretsky, Kristin Edmunds, Lia McLaughlin, and Tina White. The PTO annual appeal letter is included with the directories, in case you missed out on Valley Gives but would like to make a donation to support our teachers.
The PTO traditionally provides desserts for the Teacher's holiday luncheon the organized by the front office on Monday, Dec 22. If you would like to bake a nut free goodie, please email jfkmspto@gmail.com
Next meeting is Monday, Jan 5 at 5:30 in the JFK Library. The agenda and past minutes will be posted on the blog. All welcome!
Dances:
There will be a 7th Grade Dance THIS Friday directly after school from 2:45-4:45. This is a free event to acknowledge the exceptional job the 7th grade did on raising funds for our Magazine Drive!
Our very own 7th grade band, Light of Day, will start with a 30 minute set, followed by DJ music until 4:45.
Students need to arrange for a pick up promptly at 4:45 (carpooling encouraged).
Also, any donation of snacks and beverages is greatly encouraged & appreciated. They can be dropped off at the Main Office during school hours until Friday@ 2:30pm.
Thank you for your support. Please encourage your student(s) to attend.
The Gay-Straight Alliance will be hosting a RAINBOW DANCE on January 30th from 6:30-8:30 in the cafeteria. We will be having a DJ and face painting. The students decided that this dance will benefit the non-profit The Trevor Project. Formed in 1998, they offer free crisis hotlines and educational materials to stop the epidemic of LGBTQ teen suicide.
Please consider chaperoning the dance or providing baked goods for our bake sale. We are looking for donations of decorations (streamers, lights, glitter, table cloths, paper goods) and face paint.
NEF Honor a Teacher:
You can make a donation to the annual fund, which supports the small grants programs in honor of a teacher or teachers.
