The 80’s
are Calling! Sign Up is OPEN for 6th & 7th Grade Dances
This year the
6th & 7th grade dances will be held March 1 and March 22 and the theme
chosen by the Student Council is “The 80’s”! Flyers will be going home soon and
tickets to each dance will be sold at lunchtime on Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday during the week of the dances.
In order to
host these dances we will need parent/guardian volunteers as chaperones, to
donate snacks, and help decorate and clean up after the dances.
If your tween
does NOT want to see you volunteering at their dance, please consider
volunteering at the dance your child is not attending. We need 10 chaperones at
each dance. It’s the rules! It’s really fun, our DJ rocks and it’s a mere 90
minutes of much needed volunteer help. Our students have a great time and
really appreciate these events.
This week our
students have a special treat brought to us by the Allen Davis Jazz in the
Schools Program in coordination with the Jazz Workshop and the Northampton Jazz
Festival. Not only will the great Don Braden, saxophonist, flutist, composer and
educator be leading the band but NYC master drummer Steve Johns will be filling in on drums. The
quartet will teach a two hour long workshop at JFK Middle School in Northampton
to our 8th grade jazz band and then give a school wide assembly for all
students the next day. We are excited to share this news about this great
opportunity for our students.

COMMUNITY
EVENTS
The
Strengthening Families Program: For Parents and Youth 10-14
This is a
7-session program open to all families raising 10-14 year olds (5-8th grade).
The current session began Thursday Feb. 14-March 28 (skip 2/21) at White Brook
Middle School in Easthampton. It's free, with a healthy dinner and childcare
for younger siblings also provided. Part of the time, families meet separately,
giving caregivers a chance to talk to each other and watch video skits of other
families that is both entertaining and contains useful information about how to
show love and set limits. Students are learning about empathy, friendship,
communication as well as peer resistance skills as they may begin to face more
negative social pressures in middle and high school. When families are all
together, the focus is on family bonding time, with fun games, family projects
that highlight family values and connection. SFP10-14 is the number one rated
drug prevention program by the World Health Organization, but mostly it's just
fun! Each week there are giveaways and raffles including a 2019 pass to Look
Park this session!
