Happy Friday Huskies! Thanks so much to all the families who came out to the Community Carnival on Sunday! It was a big success with a large turn out and a great opportunity to spend time together as a district. School Local Northampton will soon be announcing final numbers in attendance and earnings.

Box Tops For Education
The Fall deadline for turning in Box Tops for Education is fast approaching! If you have been collecting them, please bring them in by October 19th. Each Box Top is worth $.10 for our school and they quickly add up.

How to Volunteer at JFK
In order to volunteer in Northampton Public Schools, every parent or guardian needs to fill out a "CORI" in the school office. The CORI volunteer application is good for 3 years. Learn more at this VINS link or in the office.

Next JFK PTO Meeting (10/2 from 6-7:30pm)
Our October PTO meeting will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 6pm in the JFK library. We will be discussing and voting on new teacher grants getting updates from JFK staff and reviewing upcoming events. JFK PTO meetings are planned for the first Tuesday of the month and all are welcome.

JFK Flu Clinic (10/11)
Packets went home this week for the JFK Flu Clinic on October 11. If you would like your student to participate, complete the consent and insurance forms and return to JFK by Friday, October 5. For more information, contact Karen Jarvis-Vance, MSN, RN, NCSN at kjarvisvance@northampton-k12.us.

Northampton Area Pediatrics will be hosting a free parenting workshop open to the community on Sunday, September 30 from 4-5:30pm with Dr Jane Fleishman called "How to Teach (and Learn From) Our Kids about Sex." RSVP at contactus@napeds.com.

Northampton Prevention Coalition Annual Retreat
Coalition partners, parents, guardians, NPS and SVAHS faculty, staff, and administrators, community members, health care providers, prevention specialists, and anyone interested in offering guidance on our next year of programming JOIN US!
The retreat will be held November 8, 2018 9:30-1:00 at the Smith College Oak Room.

Happy Friday Huskies! Thanks so much to all the families who came out to the JFK Open House last night. It was a big success with a large turn out. Thanks for everyone who voted for the School Council candidates. This was a banner year with seven parents/guardians stepping forward to serve in the three available spots. Stay tuned, we will be announcing the results soon.

Carnival Celebrating the Northampton Public Schools!
This Sunday, September 23, 12-4pm at JFK Middle School
The Northampton Public School Carnival is a joint effort between the Parent Teacher Organizations of all six Northampton Public Schools and School Local Northampton. The all-ages, community-wide carnival will feature games and prizes, a bounce house, obstacle course, glitter tattoo, face painting, and refreshments. Community organizations staffing informational tables include Racial Equity and Learning, Special Education Parent Advisory Council, the Northampton Survival Center, Smith Art Museum, Forbes Library, the Girl Scouts and Northampton Public Schools. A shuttle service will stop at each Northampton elementary school, Florence Heights, and Meadowbrook Apartments to simplify parking and transportation. Don't miss your shot at the celebrity dunk tank featuring Jo Comerford, John Provost, Lindsay Sabadosa, David Messing, and Sara Madden.

Need volunteers on Tuesday Picture Day! (9/25)
JFK still needs a few more daytime volunteers for our upcoming fall picture day. We currently have one person signed up. We need at least 2 more people between 8am-10am or 10am-11:30am. The last family information session for the new Chromebook program will be held in the community room on Thursday 9/25 at 6:30pm. Learn about the Digital Driver's License and the Repair Strategy, charging stations and more.

JFK PTO Update – September 14, 2018

Reminder about Take-Home Thursdays
Thursdays are the day that JFK sends home flyers with important information about school programs. Be sure to check with your student for flyers on Thursdays.

JFK Open House (9/20 at 6:30pm)
Parents and guardians are invited to attend the JFK Open House. The evening will begin with homeroom and then classroom visits. Come early and learn about the PTO and afterschool program. The library will hold a Sponsor a Book campaign and you can purchase books for the library. It’s a great way to honor someone. There will also be an election for School Council seats. If you are interested in serving, please contact the main office before September 18. If you need transportation to school or childcare while here, please call 413-587-1489.

Note: This event is for parents and guardians only. Unfortunately, we do not have room for students, siblings, or young children to attend the classroom presentations. Please be looking for other activities during the year for students and families. Childcare will be available for young children in our Community Room.

Please save the date for the first Health Advisory meeting of the year on October 17, 3:30pm, JFK Middle School, exact location TBD. We will be discussing a revision of the district Wellness Policy. You can find the current policy and implementation procedures here. This policy will also be taken up for discussion at the Rules and Policy subcommittee meeting of the School Committee on October 4. More snacks for our Nurse’s Office needed

Our school nursing staff always appreciates donations of healthy snacks to distribute to our students as needed. Donations can be dropped of at the main JFK office. No snacks with nuts please. Some examples of great snacks are pretzels, nut free granola bars, and sun or veggie chips. Donations are very much appreciated.
